Bolingbrook Amateur Radio Society

The Bolingbrook Amateur Radio Society (BARS) was established in the early 1970's. We have a Membership of about 60+ men and women, plus a year-round calendar of events and activities. We invite you to browse our Web site to see who we are and what we do.

Update on our Web site reconstruction: We have made the switch of our software running on our servers. EVERY user of this site needs to make a new account using their CALL SIGN! If you do not have a license, please use your REAL name in place of a call sign. You can put it all together as one word or just your name with a space. EXAMPLE:  Johndoe or John Doe. We are doing this so we can eliminate auto spam and with your call sign it will be easier to know our users in our database.

Bill Stamps, W9WRS is recuperating the ManorCare Nursing Facility, 200 W Martin, Naperville IL. As of today (5-29-2012) Peg and I have visited Bill.  I am sure he would like to hear from our Fellow Members or a visit. The ManorCare's phone number is (630) 355-4111 just ask for William Stamps . Bill will be there for a while continuing to build up strength to go home. Bill sounds much better on the phone now but, he can have visitors for short visits. The best thing our Members can do to boost his spirits is make a phone call or a short visit.  Prayers for a speedy recovery are still appreciated.  Jim, N9ABF

BARS Nets and Special Events

We are now Officially in the SKYWARN Season.  If you are a trained SKYWARN Weather Spotter, during severe weather conditions you are expected to check in during BARS SKYWARN Nets. (Remember when I asked at several meetings for a show of hands on who were Trained Spotters ? I have a pretty good memory. Don't make me call you in the middle of the night when it is storming. I KNOW you won't be sleeping and your participation could save lives) The Village of Bolingbrook 147.330 Repeater SKYWARN Nets are linked to the National Weather Service WX9LOT office in Lockport, IL during severe weather.

Our weekly BARS Information Net is held every Thursday evening at 8:00 PM on The Village of Bolingbrook Repeater 147.330+ PL 107.2 You do not need to be a member of BARS to check in. Everyone is encouraged to check in for information regarding our Club News and Activities. After the BARS Info Net is closed, we will have a SKYWARN Net with Roll Call and SKYWARN Information on Net Operations. We can answer your questions regarding our Club and SKYWARN operations that are not covered during the BARS Info Net.

Your Net Control operators are Archie, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ; Jim, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ; Bill, W9WRS; and Scott, KC9UTC. We are looking for more of our BARS Members to step up and volunteer for Net duties. It only will take a little over 30 minutes each week. It is easy and can be fun! It also keeps you tuned up for running Emergency Nets like SKYWARN. We always have help for you if you are a little nervous. Just send a email to either Archie or Jim to get on our Schedule list. Here is the >>> BARS Net Script. <<< You can modify it slightly to make it more comfortable if you desire. This is an informal relaxed net. If you are comfortable it will show others how easy it can be. All we ask is that you operate the Net in a PROFESSIONAL manner.
